How to apply

The application process for the Future Leaders Programme involves four stages:

  • Application form

  • Online tests

  • Telephone interview

  • Selection day

The Application form

The first thing you must do is complete the application form, which allows you to present a complete picture of your talents, interests and ambitions.

  • Take your time and make sure you answer all of the questions.

  • At each stage of the recruitment process we review the Unilever competencies, which can be found here.

  • We also look at your motivation for applying for the specific business area and for Unilever.

  • Don’t forget to focus on what you as an individual have achieved, not just what happened overall when you were part of a group.

Submit your application as per the instructions on the form and make sure you do so before the closing date, which can be found in the apply section. In order to be fair to everybody, applications received after the closing date will not be considered. Your form will be evaluated by a trained assessor, not a computer, and if successful, you will go through to the next stage of the recruitment process.

The online tests

The second stage of the recruitment process is to complete our online tests, which consist of a logical reasoning and numerical reasoning test. You can try out some sample tests at www.psl.co.uk/practice.

The telephone interview

The next stage of the recruitment process is a telephone interview. Again we’ll ask questions based on the Unilever competencies, and we’ll want to find out more information about why you’re interested in both the business area you’ve applied for and Unilever.

Selection day

This is the final stage of the recruitment process. The night beforehand, we will organise accommodation for you in a local hotel and you will have dinner with a couple of our current graduates, so you can ask them more questions about the programme and get to know the other candidates. This is followed by a full day assessment, which consists of a variety of exercises, which include:

  • Case study

  • Two group exercises

  • Competency based interview

  • Presentation exercise

These exercises are designed around a business case study, enabling us to assess your potential, while giving you an insight into what it’s like to work in Unilever.

  • The case study focuses on business issues – but you don’t need in-depth business knowledge to tackle it.

  • You should use your ability to think logically and laterally, your life experiences and your interpersonal skills during this day.

  • We again assess against the Unilever competencies on this day, along with your motivation and analytical thinking.

We will let you know the outcome of the Selection day within 24 hours and will give you feedback on your performance. The programme starts in September of each year. If successful, you must be prepared to work in any of our UK/Ireland operations during the two years on the Programme.

If you have any queries about the opportunities we have available or your application please contact us on 0870 154 3550 or email enquiry@unilevergraduates.com.
